Simulating
Random Events
| ||
With this activity, students will explore
probability concepts through experiments using coins, dice, and spinners. Mathematical Topics: Students will explore and discuss concepts of randomness, combinations, permutations, independent events, sample space, and theoretical and empirical probability. Mathematical Thinking: Students will predict outcomes of an experiment, justify their predictions, and compare theoretical and empirical probability. Technology: Students will use the F9 key to recalculate a worksheet, and the randbetween and countif functions to simulate a random event and tally the results, respectively. The students will also format a worksheet by using the paint tool, changing fonts, and inserting text boxes. The screenshots below display several of the worksheets designed for simulating random events. This spreadsheet can be downloaded from Microsoft Excel Interactive Projects
