Although there may be some advantage in terms of comprehension in students' building graphs by hand, this task quickly reaches a point of diminishing returns when students are making multiple graphs of similar data. Spreadsheets allow students to create quickly  multiple graphical representations of data and focus their classroom time and energies on the analysis of the graphical trends depicted, rather than on the tedious task of graphing by hand.
