Scientists often use data sets that are too large to make sense of without some data management tool. One common data management tool is a spreadsheet, which allows scientists (and students) to summarize easily large data sets both statistically and graphically.

In this activity students create and analyze graphs of historical weather data they download from the Internet to develop conclusions about how El  Niņo has affected temperatures and rainfall in the selected area.
