Guidelines for Using Technology in the Preparation of Science Teachers

The following guidelines are intended to provide assistance in designing instruction and to guide applications of technology in supporting science teacher education reform, as framed by Benchmarks for Scientific Literacy and the National Science Education Standards.

1. Technology should be introduced in the context of science content.
2. Technology should address worthwhile science with appropriate pedagogy.
3. Technology instruction in science should take advantage of the unique features of technology.
4. Technology should make scientific views more accessible.
5. Technology instruction should develop students' understanding of the relationship between science and technology.
