Procedures:
- Divide the class into teams of four. The class should not be divided
into more than seven teams.
- Give each team the following materials:
- Set of six maps
- Time Line
- Travel Log
Student A will be responsible for the travel log and time line. Student
B will be responsible for maps 1 and 4. Student C will be responsible
for Maps 2 and 5. Student D will be responsible for Maps 3 and 6.
- Explain the rules as they appear on the travel log:
- Earn as many points as possible
- Plan your trip before going to the computer
- Start in the origin state or territory at the assigned time
- Use your Time Line to determine the state and year of the Final
Destination and record it above line 15
- In exactly 15 moves, travel to states that have any of the assigned
characteristics. You can only collect points when you are on the map
where those characteristics are shown.
- For each move you plan, you may either move to a connected state
on the current map, or make a time jump to the same state on a different
map. States are connected by a common border or a shortcut.
- Install the American History Inspirer: The Civil War CD-ROM into the
CD-ROM drive. Double click on the icon to open the program.
- Click Open on the Title screen.
- Open the WalkThru file.
- *For Windows, the file is called "WalkThru.ahi.
- Click Continue.
- The student assignment will appear on the screen. Instruct students
to copy the information onto the team Travel Log and then click OK.
- Away from the computer, student teams should plan their trip by recording
fifteen (15) moves on their travel log.
- Once the team has planned their trip, they should move to the computer
to enter their route. Each team member should be assigned one of the
following tasks: operate keyboard and mouse, read the planned route,
read maps for bonus questions. (It will take approximately two minutes
for a team to enter its route.)
- The team will automatically receive its next assignment after entering
its trip. Team members should copy down their assignment and return
to their seats to plan the next trip.
- (If more than one team is ready to move to the computer, you can suggest
that the waiting team plans an alternate route.)
- The Multi-Team Picker box will appear. Click the team that is ready
to go next and click the Continue button.
