The projects will be assessed with a rubric that includes the following items:
- Strength of background information on the issue
- Rationale for integration into a typical social studies course
- Feasibility of the classroom activity
- Quality of the classroom activity
- Integration of interdisciplinary components and multiple perspectives on
the issues
- Educational campaign idea and implementation strategies
- Presentation of ideas to the class
Alternative Assessment Ideas
- Preservice teachers may implement a social action project at a local school
or in the community
- Teachers may organize a social action fair at a local school
- Teachers may design a social action website which will serve as a resource
to other social studies educators
- Teachers may develop a webquest pertaining to their issue
