Teaching Social Issues

Assessment

The projects will be assessed with a rubric that includes the following items:

Strength of background information on the issue
Rationale for integration into a typical social studies course
Feasibility of the classroom activity
Quality of the classroom activity
Integration of interdisciplinary components and multiple perspectives on the issues
Educational campaign idea and implementation strategies
Presentation of ideas to the class

Alternative Assessment Ideas

Preservice teachers may implement a social action project at a local school or in the community
Teachers may organize a social action fair at a local school
Teachers may design a social action website which will serve as a resource to other social studies educators
Teachers may develop a webquest pertaining to their issue
