The African American Soldier

Assessment:

Students should be able to explain what life was like for an African American soldier during the Civil War. They should be able to support their description by referring to primary documents they explored during this lesson. Students could write their description in a paper or lead a discussion on the topic.

Students could also defend or criticize particular aspects of the African American soldier's treatment in the War by referring to specific documents they explored.
