ANIMATION:

This is one of the many whistles and bells of Power Point. A useful feature of animation for teachers is the ability to sequentially display certain points on a slide, e.g. in the presentation for this module slides 7 and 17 have bullets which "fly in" one by one with a click of the mouse. To do this, while your cursor is still in your text box, you choose CUSTOM ANIMATION from the SLIDE SHOW menu. From the EFFECTS tab, you have many choices as you how your animation and sound will enter. You can try various styles and preview them in this menu. On this same screen, you are able to manipulate the text once it's been discussed. This is selected using the AFTER ANIMATION options. You can hide the text altogether or change its color.

You can also animate features of your spreadsheet as in slide 5. Here each bar "flies in" with a click of the mouse allowing you to discuss mobilization numbers for the five countries, then casualty totals, and finally the figures for the wounded. This is achieved by inserting your complete chart first. While the chart is still highlighted, choose CUSTOM ANIMATION from the SLIDE SHOW pulldown menu. Choose the CHART EFFECTS tab which will give you several options of how to animate. Slide 5 introduces the chart by elements in the series. You can PREVIEW the animation style you chose by the button labelled so and can modify until you are satisfied.

If you choose to save you presentation as HTML and publish it on the web, be sure to pay close attention to the Wizard's prompts. You will have an option to include the animation in the HTML version.
